Archives in archives. Cultural memory of the folkloric text
The idea of looking for and finding out old cultural traces in the folklore texts is as old as folklore study itself. It is also true that the old scholars looked mainly for historical traces, in spite of a strong and vivid opposition of those who firmly rejected the idea of folklore texts as an archive of the remote times. However, the new vision over folklore as „artistic communication in small groups”, or, in my words, „[artistic] [oral] communication of group in context” opens new perspectives in this direction. This study selects a little part of the social and cultural life (the monastic space) as it is preserved in the folklore texts.
