Saint Severinus, Apostle of Noricum Province The article presents information about St. Severinus, a Western saint who
preached mainly in the parts of present Austria. Known as Saint Severinus of
Noricum or Naples, Saint Severinus preached the Gospel in the 5th century in
the province of Noricum. Apparently, he was not a priest or a monk, but a
heremit with the gift of foreseeing, of wonderworking. He established several
monasteries, and tried to organize the population withdrawing in front of the
barbarians. It is commemorated by the Orthodox and Catholic Churches on January
8th. He is considered patron of those in prison, but also of the wine-
growers. ALEXANDRU NAN |
