On February 3th, 1936, in Cluj, Bishop Nicolae Ivan closed his eyes forever and since then, for those
who followed him, his legacy was overwhelming by wealth and responsibility. The bishop from Cluj
has revived an ancient diocese, with roots deep in the history of Transylvania, he persisted and established
The Orthodox Theological Institute of Cluj and perhaps the most visible and overwhelming
of his achievements was that he raised the Episcopal Orthodox Cathedral from Cluj. The solemnities
of its consecration, on November 4th-6th, 1933, crowned his titanic 10 years work and efforts
that he has put into raising this holy place. The importance of the moment is shown by each page of
the history of those days and, defi nitely, an extremely important chapter is marked by the speeches
offered by the public fi gures present at the event. The article propose to the readers to recall those
speeches, their historical, symbolical and national content undeniably proving that what was raised
in Cluj was much more than some granite walls, that a symbol was raised.
