Metaphor in Psalm 79 (80)

Eugen Dorcescu "poeta doctus, but not artifex" (as he defines himself in an interview), doctor in philology, has developed over the years, in a number of academic papers, an integrated concept of metaphor, a model that applies now to Psalm 79 (80). The analysis reveals, on one hand, the size, the strength and consistency of formal metaphorical structures (coalescent metaphors, involved metaphors, inductions, grafts), and on the other hand, the semantic mechanism (personification - depersonalization) that generates, maintains and gives an hypostasis to the vineyard symbol - known as such from the prophetic writings of the Old Testament and the Gospels or the Book of Revelation.
Keywords: metaphor, metaphorical structures, semantic mechanism, Psalm 79
