"When the Most High, descending ..." . Comparative analysis of divine intervention in history at the Tower of Babel and at Pentecost

Sacred history has several cosmic moments, as it refers not only to human passage through history, but also to the entering of the uncontainable God into the world so severely limited by space and time. The study seeks to highlight the importance of the event of the Pentecost to human history, emphasizing the spiritual aspects of this moment and how it confirms the organic connection between spiritual reference points of the Old and New Testaments. The Descent of the Holy Ghost, fifty days after the Resurrection of Christ, is one of the most full of symbols events in biblical history, since it is a direct intervention of the divinity in history, one that, in this case, continues within the Church until Parousia. The descent of God is strictly connected, even in the Biblical expression, to the idea of man`s ascent. The descent of the Holy Ghost teaches us that for man to ascend to God, God must first descend to man, thing that the Holy Ghost will preach after the Tower of Babel episode through the prophets, which only prepare the incarnation of Christ into the world, the descent of God into the world, which precedes that of the Holy Ghost into the souls of men and implicitly the beginning of the ascent under the careful guidance of the Holy Ghost.
