Nicolae Ivan and political challenges of the early twentieth century in Transylvania
ANDREEA DĂNCILĂ INEOAN, Nicolae Ivan and political challenges of the early twentieth century in Transylvania The role assumed by Nicolae Ivan on the Transylvanian political level, especially during the period when he was a consistorial assessor in Sibiu, was not just a sustained activity in the pages of the Romanian Telegraph. Since 1906, Nicolae Ivan faces a diffi cult aspect: although he occupies a leading position in the Romanian National Party in Transylvania, being its Vice President, he does not hesitate to actively encourage the youth gathered around Octavian Goga, which will operate as a pressure group to the Transylvanian cultural, political and ecclesiastical fi eld. Although in many times inconvenient to the famous elites of the time, this intransigent youth will always have the fatherly support of this assesor from Sibiu, which alongside Miron Cristea, Roman Ciorogariu, remained, despite accusations from his own party, an advocate of reformed politics. This study is, thus, trying to compose the profi le of one of the most representative fi gures in our Transylvanian church, an emblematic fi gure for his intersections with the sphere of power, whether ecclesiastical, political or cultural.
