ŞTEFAN ILOAIE, Bishop Nicolae Ivan and the beginnings of the journal Renasterea
Founder of the Diocese of Cluj, Nicolae Ivan also founded the journal Renasterea. Its fi rst
issue appeared on September 1st, 1923. The magazine had a very important missionary and administrative
role for the Diocese of Cluj, in times where communication between diocesan center
and parishes was very diffi cult. The journal included very topical theological articles and a great
variety of information, intended mainly for a good preparation of the clergy in their mission of
molding consciences. Run by talented editors, the magazine had great importance in the era.
Today it continues its apparition being - by content and form - a worthy descendant of the old
journal Renasterea.
