The `60s in Bucharest

The article evokes the atmosphere of Bucharest in the `60s. The city changed very little his appearance from the interwar period. Its urban aspect, with blocks of flats and defined neighborhoods, would appear later. It highlights several issues of the everyday life in Bucharest during this period of transit, while the interwar paradigm of social life, about relations between people, relationship with the church, trade and other daily activities, was still present. After a period marked by the spirit of Soviet aggression, Romanian society was under a prudent and gradual derusification in the early `60s, as a slight relaxation of everyday life.

Keywords: Bucharest, the interwar period, the communist regime, derusification quasi-freedom
