Nicolae Colan – A role model of resistance through faith
The article evokes Bishop Nicolae Colan’s mission to preserve Romanian cultural and spiritual values in an occupied Transylvania during the Vienna Diktat. His pastoral care was not just for the faithful in the diocese of Cluj, but he took under his wing the entire Diocese of Maramures, that of Oradea due to the forced expulsion of Bishop Nicole Popovici, and also the three orthodox deaneries in Mures, Covasna and Harghita, taking the necessary steps towards the authorities in Budapest to get all the Romanian parishes under his care. His pastoral visits, speeches, liturgical ministries from Ţara Barsei (Burzenland) to Maramures and Budapest brought into the hearts of the faithful new dawns of hope and faith in God, and a lot of comfort and healing. And then there are also the elements of a cultural program focused on the Holy Scripture and on spiritual initiation literature, as well as on elements of Romanian language and literature meant to preserve and develop the consciousness of belonging to the Romanian nation regardless of borders. All these reveal us a role model of resistance through faith, the role model Nicolae Colan.
