The Stockholm ecumenical congress of August 1925 was the first inter-continental ecclesial event attended by a delegation of the Romanian Orthodox Church. The delegation, headed by Metropolitan Nicolae Bălan of Transylvania, included the teacher and priest Ioan Lupaș. He participated as an expert of the Romanian delegation and defended the Romanian Church and State in spite of the challenges that some participants at the Congress, belonging to the nations dissatisfied with the Treaty of Versailles, made in the preamble of the congress, encouraging the participants to be at the height of the ecclesial moment and to leave behind the revisionist tendencies.
