Archimandrite Placide Deseille about Patriarch Justinian Marina
Archimandrite Placide Deseille met Patriarch Justinian in Romania in the 60’s and 70’s on the occasion of several visits he made here, with the intention of becoming Orthodox in our Church. Three seem to be the characteristic features of Patriarch Justinian Marina, which caught the attention of Father Placide: the benevolence and special kindness of the Patriarch, his providential role for our Church during the communist era and his visionary character regarding re-rooting Orthodoxy in the secularized West. Father Placide emphasizes the role of the Patriarch Justinian not only of responsible and sacrificial pastoral care of the Romanian Church, but also of a true spiritual renewal, especially of the monastic life.
