About Mathilda, apart from rumors and frenzy The article refers to a controversial film made in Russia, namely „Matilda,”
directed by Aleksei Ucitel. What seems to have caused the vehement reaction of
the Russian „orthodox” media is not the ephemeral love affair of a young tsar
when he did not yet have a legitimate marital relationship. The case here goes
beyond the boundaries of a frivolous anecdote, becoming blasphemous facade,
since Nicholas II is not just any tsar, but one „raised to the altars,” a
saint. From the critics’ point of view, the movie „Mathilda” is just an
ordinary sub-cultural product in the context of globalized consumerism. BORIS BUZILĂ |
