Unity of Romanians (nation, language, faith) in the prefaces of the 16th and 17th centuries church books
The unity of the nation, expressed through the ethnic origin of the unity of language and belief, was already present and prominent more than 350 years before 1 December 1918. This unity was easy to notice and follow in the spiritual manifestations and activities of the Romanians, ever since the beginning of printing in Romanian (16th century). Our old texts, dating back to the 16th century, could represent the steps or ages that led to our union, viewed in the era and the area they come from and which are memorable moments of the Romanian national unity. The author stops at Coresi’s prints, especially the Romanian ones, at the Homiliary of Varlaam, at the Response to Calvinist Catechism, at the New Testament from Bălgrad (1648), at some texts from Metropolitan Dosoftei and at the Bible from Bucharest from 1688.
