Moments from the Timeline of the School of Cantors in the Eparchy of Vad, Feleac and Cluj (1937-1948)
In the study: Moments from the Timeline of the School of Cantors in the Eparchy of Vad, Feleac and Cluj (1937-1948), Alexandru Moraru presents on a documentary basis the time-scale of the three church schools: Nuşeni, Cluj County (1937-1940), Alba Iulia 1940-1944) and Cluj (1944-1948), relocated from one place to another because of the harsh historical conditions; in 1948 the School of Cantors in Cluj was abolished by the Communist regime in Romania. The purpose of establishing these schools, with 3-4 years of training, was to prepare church singers for the kliros to help the priests perform the Holy Church Service. At the training courses there were both church and secular disciplines, especially of general information, taught by specialized staff, as well as the practical courses as chanter. In the end, the student had a diploma exam in order to graduate as a church singer at the parishes requesting it, being paid by the state and / or from church funds. In time, through the dissolution of these special schools, a great void has been created due to the lack of church singers, which we feel until today.
