Elder Sophrony as hagiorite

The article presents Archimandrite Sophronius Sakharov`s personality by the time he was living on Mount Athos. The blessed Abbot had a major contribution in the growth of the monastic population on the Holy Mountain. Many young people who have embraced the monastic life were greatly helped by Elder Sophrony`s book about Saint Silouan. He lived at the monastery of St. Panteleimon - Russikon, where he met St. Silouan. After the saint`s death, he lived in the wilderness of Athos, then he was appointed confessor for several Athonite monasteries. He lived on Mount Athos for 22 years, until 1947, when God sent him on mission in Western Europe.
