Cleansing Quality of suffering - from sin to forgiveness - leading character Raskolnikov in Crime and punishment

Analyzing the suffering from Raskolnikov`s perspective, we can see how this becomes the main purifying factor in a faulty rationalism. Dostoyevsky wants to purify the character only through suffering, no other way being supported. Throughout the novel, it becomes clear that suffering is the most important moral concept of the novelist. The russian writer wants to demonstrate the rationalist thinking that evil and suffering are not obstacles against one`s faith in God. People can lose faith in God only when evil finally dominates them.
